Downloading libsocket

libsocket is no longer being developed. Please see the announcement.

This address will always forward to the home page:
http://libsocket.tsx.org/

Please note that these web pages are for libsocket 0.8.0 and later only.

Please check the libsocket news page for the latest updates. If you are interested in helping develop libsocket, please look at the libsocket Development Home Page. Source snapshots & other developments will be released at the development home page.

libsocket can be downloaded from the DJGPP archive ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/pc/dos/djgpp/current/ in the v2tk/ and v2tk/beta/ and directories. If you do not know of a local mirror site (e.g. in the UK ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/packages/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/ ), click below to download from the main distribution site.

If you simply wish to use libsocket in programs, download the binary version. If you're interested in how libsocket works, or you wish to modify the library, download the source distribution. If you download the source distribution, you will be able to compile a debugging version of the library. Both the binary and source distributions contain "Beej's Guide to Network Programming", which is recommended reading if you are new to BSD sockets programming. The documentation distribution contains the documentation in HTML format.

Version 0.8.0 - 16th November 2000 - Version 0.7.4 has been released as version 0.8.0, since so much has changed. Winsock 2 support (but buggy), many bugfixes, better integration with DJGPP, info-format documentation.

Coda SOCK.VXD virtual device driver for Winsock 2 support -
NOTE: windows-socket-extension.exe is included with libsocket 0.7.4 beta 4 and later as redist/sockvxd.exe. You do not need to download the .exe file for libsocket 0.7.4 beta 4 or later. See redist/readme.txt for more information.
Binary distribution windows-socket-extension.exe (229K) (offsite)
Source distribution windows-socket-extension-src.zip (22K) (offsite)

This virtual device driver (VxD) is included with libsocket, and so does not downloading, unless you want its sources. It is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

What libsocket requires

The DJGPP packages required to use/build libsocket are described in the Install Guide. Microsoft TCP/IP stack for Windows should also be installed.
